The Huntsman, 2025 Internship Application

Are you a Film and Television student or recent graduate looking to break into the industry with real-world, hands-on experience? As we gear up for the exciting next chapter of The Huntsman, we’re seeking a passionate intern to join our team for an unforgettable production journey spanning multiple projects.

We are offering two distinct internship opportunities for 2025: one focused on the production of The Huntsman: Season 3 and the other on The Huntsman Online Hunter Education Course. Each internship offers a unique experience—The Huntsman: Season 3 will take you deep into Victoria’s High Country for on-location documentary filming, while the Online Hunter Education Course internship will involve capturing instructional content in and around Greater Geelong. Applicants may apply for one or both roles, depending on their interests and availability.

Internship Options and Timelines

1. The Huntsman Online Hunter Education Course
This internship focuses on the production of course content designed to educate new hunters. Filming will take place between January and March 2025, in a series of 3–10 day shoots across various locations in the Greater Geelong region. You’ll work as a camera operator, assisting with setup and filming instructional material. This project is ideal for those interested in educational media and online content production.

2. The Huntsman: Season 3
This internship centers around the production of the upcoming season of The Huntsman. Filming will occur during two key 10-day trips (160 hours), scheduled for early June and August 2025, in Victoria’s High Country. Here, you’ll join our team in capturing the journey of Australian hunters as they navigate rugged wilderness by pack raft, establish a base camp, and ethically harvest animals for food. This project is perfect for those drawn to documentary-style filmmaking and adventurous, on-location shoots.

Editing and Post-Production
Both internships offer additional opportunities for remote-based editing work, particularly in July and after the August shoot, where you’ll work on content assembly with supervision. Specific tasks will be outlined as each production phase unfolds. Prior to each filming period, we’ll hold online meetings and preparatory sessions to ensure you’re fully prepared for the field.

What You’ll Do

As an intern, you’ll work alongside our team to:

  • Operate cameras and capture high-quality footage in both rugged outdoor settings and instructional environments
  • Assist with talent management and on-screen coordination, ensuring smooth production experiences across both projects
  • Support the production team with logistics, planning, and setup for location shoots
  • Gain editing experience, contributing to the final cut under the guidance of seasoned editors, with both on-location and remote-based editing opportunities
  • Receive hands-on training and mentorship in both field production and post-production editing

Benefits

As an intern with The Huntsman, you’ll gain valuable experience and industry exposure, along with specific benefits that will support your professional growth:

  • On-the-Job Training: Receive hands-on guidance from our experienced team, building technical skills in camera operation, production logistics, editing, and more.
  • Field and Industry Experience: Work directly in the field, capturing real-time footage in both remote wilderness and studio settings, and gain insight into the unique challenges and rewards of documentary-style production.
  • Show Credits: Earn official credits on The Huntsman episodes or online course content, building your portfolio with high-quality, broadcast-ready work.
  • Potential Future Employment: Outstanding performance and commitment during your internship may open doors for future roles with The Huntsman or related projects, offering an opportunity to grow within our team.

Compensation

This internship is currently structured as an unpaid position, intended to provide hands-on industry experience and mentorship. However, depending on the experience and skill level of the successful applicant, there may be opportunities for compensation to be discussed on a case-by-case basis. Our aim is to support the growth and development of our intern, and we’re open to tailoring aspects of the role in recognition of exceptional skills or relevant experience.

Ethical Considerations

As The Huntsman centers on ethical hunting practices, it’s important for prospective interns to understand that the production of The Huntsman: Season 3 involves the humane harvesting of animals (primarily deer). During the course of filming, animals will be hunted, shot, and processed as part of the show’s focus on sustainable and ethical food procurement.

We want to ensure that applicants are either already comfortable with, or open to learning about, the hunting process. This is an opportunity to witness firsthand how animals are ethically harvested in the wild and how the entire process, from the shot to the table, respects both nature and the animals involved.

If you have concerns, we encourage an open dialogue to discuss how we approach hunting and meat processing in a respectful and educational manner. Our aim is to provide an enriching learning experience for individuals who are open-minded and eager to grow in this space.

Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a strong interest in documentary-style filmmaking, outdoor adventure, and educational content
  • Possesses proficient to advanced camera operation skills
  • Is comfortable in rugged, outdoor environments and adaptable to changing conditions
  • Appreciates ethical and sustainable hunting practices
  • Thrives in a dynamic, unscripted environment where no two days are the same

If you’re excited by the opportunity to work behind the scenes of one of Australia’s leading hunting shows and contribute to an educational course, we’d love to hear from you!

Selection Process

Please note that after reviewing all applications, there will be an additional interview stage to further assess fit for the role. This interview will give us an opportunity to discuss your skills, interests, and alignment with the ethical considerations of the production, as well as to answer any questions you may have about the internship.

Following the interviews, a final selection will be made, and successful applicants will be notified with further details on the next steps.
