In just four weeks, we kick off production on Season 3 of The Huntsman. I’ve thought about filming a quick update to share my thoughts, but the gravity of what lies ahead feels like it needs a more deliberate medium. So, for the first time, I’m putting pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) to share what this next chapter means to me.
For me, Season 3 is more than just the next installment of The Huntsman — it’s a creative and hunting challenge, a new peak to discover and conquer. Over the past two years, I’ve met some incredible people and tried to capture those moments on film. Yet, despite my best efforts, much of the vision I had for Season 2 slipped through the cracks, lost to the chaos and constraints of filming in wild places. Time, travel, weather, technology, and the unpredictability of the hunt all conspire to compress and distort the story you’re trying to tell.
But these challenges have only fueled my determination to capture and share real stories — to go beyond just piecing together hunting footage. I want to find those moments that make you smile, think, laugh, maybe even cry. I’m trying to capture the heart and soul of hunting, the way it feels in the moment, and then craft it into something meaningful. This is the challenge I’m embracing in Season 3, the challenge of both a hunter and a storyteller.
This time, I’m approaching things differently. Rather than telling ten disconnected stories, each separated by time, distance, and theme, this season will follow a single story, stretched across many episodes. It will be the story of a group of mates camping and hunting in the bush, sharing their struggles, successes, and the camaraderie that makes it all worthwhile.
I’m also fortunate to have a larger team this time around, thanks to the success of Season 2 (now airing on two networks, with a third on the way). Managing this team will no doubt come with its own challenges, but I’m excited about the potential it brings to elevate the show and capture the authenticity of this adventure.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of the businesses who have backed this vision. I know talking about money can feel a bit awkward, but if we want to see more high-quality Australian hunting content, we need to get comfortable with this conversation. Creative projects on this scale don’t happen without substantial support, and this season, I’ve been blown away by the faith our partners have shown. Their belief in what we’re doing has been humbling, and I’m genuinely grateful for their trust and commitment. So, to our partners — thank you for stepping up and believing in this project. Together, we’re helping to shape the Australian hunting industry, strengthening it and moving it in a positive direction.
As always, friends, food, and camp life will be central to the story. There will be moments of seriousness, focus, and tension, but also moments of joy, exhilaration, and pure chaos. To leave those moments out would feel disingenuous, so you can expect the full spectrum of experiences that hunting has to offer — even if it means alienating some of the audience.
I won’t lie — I’m nervous. I have big dreams for what The Huntsman can become, and Season 3 is a crucial step toward that vision. It’s a wild, unpredictable stage, and while I keep telling myself that an episode doesn’t always need a successful harvest, I do wonder if I can craft a compelling hunting show without it.
All I know is that when my friends and I are having fun, something special happens on film, and that’s what I’m leaning into this season.
What I can promise you is that Season 3 will be honest, fun, and full of life. My team and I will work tirelessly to produce something that seeks to elevate Australian hunting and storytelling. Whether we achieve that remains to be seen, but life is for living and learning, so we push forward.
See you in Season 3.
