Hunting red deer in the Australian summer is tough—hot days, swirling winds, and wary stags that seem to vanish into the bush. But sometimes, even the most careful animals make a mistake.
At first light, Bill and I spotted a group of deer moving through the morning mist, their silhouettes cutting through the rising sun. It wasn’t long before a single snap of a twig gave away a hidden stag. That one mistake was all it took.
