In this misty and bone-chilling episode of The Huntsman, Chris joins Queenslanders Scott and Jody Johnson deep in the Victorian High Country. The goal? Break a dry spell that’s been dogging the crew and hopefully help one of them put a Sambar deer on the deck.

But it’s easier said than done.

The mornings are freezing. The gullies are choked with bracken fern. And the bush is so still it feels like the whole mountain is holding its breath. These are the kind of conditions that test your patience, your senses, and your gear — classic public land deer hunting in Australia.

As the team pushes through thick country, Chris shares some useful hunting tips and techniques along the way for spotting game in tough terrain, managing scent, and glassing in silence. And when things get too ripe, he takes drastic action… in the form of a painfully cold creek bath. Sometimes the wind isn’t your biggest enemy — sometimes, it’s your own stench.

Back at camp, spirits are high thanks to crackling fires, big laughs, and even bigger feeds. The crew puts Carnivore Collective’s wild game butchering tools to work, preparing a hearty post-hunt meal that warms the soul and fills the belly.
